Studio Policies for Online Double Bass Lessons
Lesson Structure and Scheduling
Lessons are offered in structured blocks of 8-10 weekly lessons. Each student has a consistent weekly time reserved for the duration of the block. Dates for each block will be confirmed in advance.
Lesson blocks generally fall across the year as follows, with a short break (typically around two weeks) between blocks:
- February – April
- April – June
- July – September
- October – December
Block lengths may vary slightly depending on the time of year. In particular, the final block before summer may be shorter to align with seasonal schedules (April–June in the Northern Hemisphere, October–December in the Southern Hemisphere). Shorter blocks may also be arranged by request.
Casual/Drop-in lessons may be available where scheduling allows. Priority is given to students enrolled in a lesson block.
Fees
Lesson rates are available here and are payable in advance to secure your lesson time.
Attendance
If I am unavailable to teach a scheduled lesson for any reason, I will endeavour to provide as much notice as possible. The lesson will be rescheduled at a mutually convenient time. If a reschedule is not possible, the lesson will be credited or refunded.
If you are unable to attend a scheduled lesson, I kindly request at least 48 hours notice in the case of an activity clash, or as early as possible if due to illness, so that the lesson may be rescheduled within the block where availability allows.
Late cancellations due to activity clashes will not be rescheduled, credited, or refunded.
Where appropriate, a video may be submitted in place of a lesson for feedback.
*Exceptional circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Online Setup
To get the most out of lessons, please ensure:
- A stable internet connection
- A device with camera and microphone (laptop or tablet preferred)
- The camera is positioned so both hands are clearly visible on the instrument throughout the lesson (full instrument view is not required)
- Your instrument is set up and ready to play
- Music and materials are accessible
- You are set up and ready to begin at your scheduled lesson time
Please wear casual clothing appropriate for an educational setting.
For students under 18, lessons should take place in a quiet but open area of the home, with a parent or guardian nearby and available if needed.
Materials and Additional Costs
Students may be asked to purchase sheet music or other resources as needed.
If you choose to prepare for exams or performances, additional costs such as accompanists or exam fees may apply.
